What is particularly wonderful about the multimedia mode of presentation here for the music researcher is the ability to have, on the same page, a description of a musical example, the transcription of that example, and a direct link to the sound file of this example, which can be controlled (play/pause, fast forward/rewind, volume) from that very page. Spearritt is truly a fine scholar of the highest calibre, and his efforts to disseminate his work, with due respect to the Iatmul musicians, in a digital format to be of benefit to future generations (not to mention a weight out of their arms) deserves the highest of accolades.
