Zusammenfassung:Despite demonstrated reduction in morbidity and mortality the need for effective treatment of hypertensives remain a main problem. In order to improve follow-up in arterial hypertension we realized a regional integrated system using microprocessor cards, intranet/internet networks and a dedicated medical tools both to connect primary and secondary care and to provide secure access and storage of clinical data. The system connected 12 hospitals and 40 General practioners all over in Campania region. We enrolled into the study 6829 consecutive patients (age 30-77 yrs). All subjects underwent clinical laboratory and ultrasonographic evaluations in order to exclude secondary hypertension and to determine cardiovascular involvement. Clinical characteristics of all the population recruited were BP:170±5/105±3 mmHg, Mean Age:43±6 yrs Total Cholesterol:208±10 mg/dl Glucose:104±3 mg/dl, Smokers: 42 % LVMi:121±21 gr/m2.
