HIGHBRIDGE

HIGHBRIDGE IS A COMMUNITY immediately southwest of Mount Eden. It lies on a much higher elevation, with the borders being the Cross Bronx Expressway on the north, Edward L. Grant Highway and Jerome Avenue on the east, Jerome and E. 161st Street on the south and Sedgwick Avenue on the west. The Dutch purchased land here from the Native Americans in 1639. The British controlled the area from the late 1600s until the Revolutionary War.
