The Physics of Fluids

The structure of the fluids and the thermodynamic relations (with the corresponding transport coefficients) between the displacement from the equilibrium of a fluid made of many particles and the fluxes that tend to restore this equilibrium constitute the core of the first chapter. The discussion emphasizes first a macroscopic viewpoint and then a microscopic one. This chapter also analyzes interfacial phenomena appearing when two fluids have a common boundary. Finally, a brief overview of the application to liquids of optical, X-ray and neutron scattering and spectroscopy is presented; such measurements lead to a study of fluctuations in the equilibrium and evaluation of the corresponding transport coefficients.
