Promoting Health and Wellness

Preventing child maltreatment can be strengthened by promoting protective factors of positive health and wellness. In earlier chapters, we discussed how Black children experience multiple layers of disadvantages that influence child maltreatment and negatively impact their health and well-being. We also explored the generational impact of how the health and wellness of parents can influence factors for child maltreatment. We continue that exploration in this chapter. Just as we have noted that child maltreatment may be reported from interactions with healthcare professionals, we also use this chapter to address ways that healthcare professionals can support protective factors to further health
