Zusammenfassung: | WELSH AMERICANS contributed to American independence at all levels of the military. Each settlement sent volunteers to fight against British rule, and there were many of Welsh stock amongst them. A disproportionate number of George Washington’s generals had Welsh ancestry. Amongst them was Welsh immigrant Frederick Watts, Otho Holland Williams, whose parents were immigrants from Wales, Francis Nash, the grandson of Welsh immigrants, and John Cadwallader, whose maternal grandparents were Welsh-born Quakers who had sailed with William Penn to Pennsylvania. Most famous of all were General Charles Lee, General ‘Mad Anthony’ Wayne, and General Daniel Morgan.
