Other Applications for Workplace Covenants

Some organizations have onboarding practices to help new managers acclimate. Typically, these involve the manager and team sharing backgrounds, meeting team members individually, or some form of light team building. In sum, the Workplace Covenant dramatically accelerates and improves the integration of a new manager onto a team before misunderstanding, “poor chemistry”, or conflict can occur. In a matrixed work environment, a project team may have literally dozens of internal team-to-team relationships, so it is impractical to develop and maintain covenants with all of them. In short, covenants can be a useful component to a project management process, as well as a way to ensure key relationships stay on track. The professor-to-class, and class-to-professor, covenants are reviewed halfway through the semester.
