Zusammenfassung: | This chapter describes the theory of waveguides and cavity resonators. It begins with the rectangular waveguide, includes its mathematical aspects, and obtains relations for transverse magnetic and transverse electric waves. In view of these relations the modes are identified, field patterns are drawn, and excitation methods are illustrated for TE and TM waves. The chapter also describes the wave behavior with the frequency and discusses the wave impedances and the equivalence of TE and TM waves. This chapter studies almost all the above aspects for the circular waveguide. It explains the mode designation in circular waveguide, as it is different from that for the rectangular waveguide. It also illustrates the mode transformation between circular and rectangular waveguides. It briefly discusses dielectric waveguides. Lastly, this chapter includes a brief description of cavity resonators. These resonators involve the coaxial, rectangular, cubic, circular, semicircular, and reentrant cavities. A brief description of dielectric resonators is also included. |
