RESEARCH SUPERVISION

The allocation of supervisors should be made with considerable care, because the effectiveness of the studentsupervisor relationship has a great effect on the student's experience and the completion of the research project. In this chapter the responsibilities of both the supervisor and the student will be discussed. This information will be of value to the novice researcher and should ensure that unrealistically high or extravagant expectations will be avoided. The supervisor should be an experienced researcher, with an interest in research as study discipline and a desire to guide students in developing new insights into their common field of study.
