To consider strategies to develop levels of motivation in your classroom practice.
This chapter explores theories behind developing levels of motivation in the classroom and focuses on mindset theory and whether this can have an impact on pupil motivation. Being able to see beyond the immediate behaviour the pupil is showing helps students to create a positive classroom environment in which all children can flourish. In order to create this positive classroom environment, students need to understand the theories of motivation, the psychology that underlies this and how this leads to the creation of a motivated classroom. B. Weiner describes motivation as being either intrapersonal or interpersonal. He says that although the boundaries between intrapersonal and interpersonal motivation are ill-defined, there are distinct characteristics between the two areas. A. McLean describes what he calls the motivated classroom. He describes motivation as having drivers and dimensions. McLean actually puts this into a classroom context. He believes that the teacher-pupil relationship is the vital component in the motivation to learn. |
