Cultivars, anatomy and improvement

Grapes are one of the world's most-planted horticultural crops, and there is a wide range of cultivars in use, many of them well suited to a particular area or end use. In addition to listing the most used cultivars, this chapter discusses clones, or selections within a cultivar, which are another important variable in the growing of quality grapes. After a review of the parts of the vine, a brief discussion is given about vine breeding and improvement.
