Zusammenfassung: | This chapter focuses on the mechanics and available tools related to the site-specific quantitative analysis of a given slope. It introduces the concept of the limit equilibrium method in slope stability analysis and describes the principles of the method of slices that can consider non-homogeneous soil conditions and irregular slip surfaces in the slope stability analysis. The chapter reviews a few commonly used methods of slices and discusses their unique capabilities and limitations. It presents a brief introduction to other numerical methods that have been used or demonstrated great potential for the purpose of slope stability analysis. The chapter describes the possible loading conditions and nature of the slope that we often consider in the slope stability analysis. It also introduces some of the commonly used techniques to monitor the stability of a slope and engineering measures to improve the stability of a slope. |
