Zusammenfassung: | Brachytherapy means treatment at short distance. In this kind of treatment, the tumor receives maximum dose and the dose falls off outside the target volume, but is generally used for radical treatment of smaller localized tumors or as a local boost to EBT. There are three different dose rates such as high-dose rate (HDR), medium dose rate (MDR), and low-dose rate (LDR) provided by brachytherapy sources at the tumor position. LDR sources and HDR sources were introduced in brachytherapy for manual afterloading (MAL) and remote afterloading (RAL) brachytherapy. There are two modes of brachytherapy implants in brachytherapy, such as temporary and permanent implants. The brachytherapy sources are available in various forms (e.g., tubes, seeds, pellets, wires). Use of electronic personal dosimeters (EPDs) for monitoring staff doses during brachytherapy procedures is useful for optimizing staff exposures. The source preparation room is used for visual inspection of sources, source storage before transporting it to the treatment room for placing in the patient. |
