Zusammenfassung:	As a result of the bombing of Australia’s north by the Imperial Japanese Navy, a new political motivation to develop and populate the region replaced the three decades of neglect that had been the hallmark of the Commonwealth’s early administration of the Northern Territory. With most of Darwin’s pre-war population of 2,000 evacuated to the south, military government was introduced for the duration of the war.
