Zusammenfassung: | An important matrix in sabermetrics research is the run expectancy matrix. The run values for Albert Pujols are used to help understand the pattern of run values. This chapter explores how players in different positions in the batting lineup perform with respect to the criterion and also explores the value of a home run and a single. The notion of run value is helpful for understanding the relative benefit of different batting plays. The run value criterion can be used to compare the batting effectiveness of players. It is difficult to compare the total run values of two players on face value, since they have different opportunities to create runs for their teams. Run values can also be used to evaluate the benefit of a single. The chapter concludes by using the run expectancy matrix and run values to understand the benefit of stealing a base and the cost of being caught stealing. |
