Zusammenfassung: | A compartment fire will progress through three main stages from ignition to burnout. Provided that there is sufficient fuel and ventilation, the initial growth period will be followed by a rapid increase in the rate of heat release, leading to the fully developed fire. This transition is known as flashover. This chapter examines the definition of flashover and the various conditions that are necessary for “flashover” to occur. In addition, the factors the affect the rate of fire growth and the time to flashover are considered. |
