Aesthetic Surgery

This chapter briefly talks about aesthetic surgery. Facelift, which is a surgical procedure designed to give a more youthful facial appearance, is first presented. A discussion of blepharoplasty that shapes or modifies the appearance of the eyelids is then presented. The chapter also briefly discusses the brow lift. Three main techniques of cosmetic brow lift include (i) coronal; (ii) endoscopic and transpalpebral. The details of rhinoplasty and genioplasty are then provided. Liposuction, a method of body contouring using suction cannulas to remove subcutaneous fat, is also provided. The chapter talks about fat injection, body contouring, and nonoperative facial rejuvenation in detail. Body dysmorphic disorder, which is a psychiatric disorder characterised by extreme preoccupation with appearance, is finally presented.
