Witch-Hunts at the University: IT Crackdown Causes Criticisms

In this chapter we learn of how the university is attempting to silence dissent and plug leaks by restricting access to outside computer services. Students are suspended as they work around the restrictions, but the university remains unrepentant. Ethical issues introduced here include codes of conduct; access to information; proportionality in punishment; name and shame; plagiarism in the age of artificial intelligence; ethical AI policies; shared resources and the tragedy of the commons; retroactive changes in terms and agreements; and bypassing corporate restrictions.
