Understanding Mycenae

The outstanding problem remaining from the Mycenae Survey concerns the role and nature of the site in the Argive Plain, not only in the Middle and Late Bronze Age, which has already been much discussed, but also in the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age.1 The text and drawings of David French’s study of the Pre–Mycenaean pottery (forthcoming) are now awaiting final editing. From this work, by pinpointing the find spots within the site for diverse wares, and by comparing and contrasting these results with what we know of the occupation patterns in the region, some progress can be made
