Cultural connections are maintained using multiple interaction strategies, such as material goods trade, information exchange, individual or group mobility, and seasonal aggregations. Despite a long history of cultural change studies (e.g., Curet 1992; Darwent et al. 2013; Dawson 2001; Jordan and O’Neill 2010; Lepofsky et al. 2009; Pauketat and Alt 2005; Prentiss et al. 2018; Pyzel 2013), maintenance of these social networks has received limited study, especially for small-scale societies (but see Lightfoot et al. 1998; Scerri et al. 2017; Temple and Stojanowski 2019).
