It shows a crowned king, sceptre in hand, upon his throne; seated at his right hand was Alexander, king of Scotland, and at his left hand Llywelyn, prince of Wales.¹ The scene is attributed to a parliament of 1278, but the portrayal in Thomas Wriothesley’s manuscript has no historical veracity and there was no occasion when Alexander III and Llywelyn were present at an English parliament.
