Tools and Purpose

In the last chapter we discussed competence and character, the first two quadrants of the people icon. In this chapter, we will discuss the topic of tools and purpose to complete the people icon. The traits of character and competence are traits of people. When looking to the people in your company or those you are trying to recruit, you want to find those with a positive combination of character and competence. These traits help to define one’s inner being. Depending on the levels of their skills and competence, one can gauge their level of effectiveness as well as their future potential. Tools and purpose are those items that must be provided by the company. When tools and purpose are combined with the aforementioned traits of character and competence, the impossible can become possible. We begin the discussion in this chapter with the topic of tools. Later the discussion will shift to the topic of purpose.
