Zusammenfassung: | Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common complication of cancer. Effective prevention and treatment can reduce morbidity and potentially reduce mortality. To identify those at high risk of VTE, risk assessment models have been developed. Anticoagulant prophylaxis is recommended in surgical oncology settings but its role in hospitalized and ambulatory medical patients with cancer remains controversial. Treatment of established VTE has been simplified with low‐molecular‐weight heparin monotherapy, but there are still many management dilemmas that require further research investigation. |
