Modulation of Phagocytic Property of Corneal Stromal Cells by Drugs: An in Vitro Study

Abstract The studies presented here describe the modulating effect of commonly topically used antiglaucoma, anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic drugs and a preservative of topical drugs on the phagocytosis of latex particles by corneal fibroblasts. Zusammenfassung:Abstract The studies presented here describe the modulating effect of commonly topically used antiglaucoma, anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic drugs and a preservative of topical drugs on the phagocytosis of latex particles by corneal fibroblasts. Rabbit corneal fibroblasts in cell culture were incubated in the presence and absence of the target drug with I125-labeled latex beads and the radioactivity associated with cells was measured. The ability of the corneal cells to phagocytose the latex beads was also studied by light and electron microscopy.
