Zusammenfassung:Mass spectrometry has been used to characterize cycloparaffinic crude oils, particularly their high-boiling distillate fractions. Modifications have been made to the calculation of hydrocarbon type analysis and determination of the average molecular weights of the saturated parts of the heavier fractions; a new term R′ N, the average number of rings in the component cycloalkanes has been obtained from characteristic m z ratios. These characteristics were calculated for two Yugoslav crude oils and Soviet crude oil, and some of the results were compared with literature data. The important advantage of the described procedures is that more relevant characteristics of cycloparaffinic crude oil can be obtained from only one scan, i.e. one single mass spectrum.
