Martensitic-like transformations in CrtMn1 − tAs

Peculiar quasi-reversible transformations have been observed for Cr t Mn 1 − t As. An initial, room temperature, MnP type single phase transforms upon cooling into two distinct MnP type phases, and upon heating into two NiAs type phases. Such transformations have been demonstrated for samples with t = 0.30 ana 0.37 by X-ray and neutron diffraction, DSC and magnetization measurements. These martensitic-like transformations have been explained in terms of uncompensated stress-fields.
