ATTENUATION OF ANTIFERROMAGNETIC EXCHANGE INTERACTIONS VIA H2O HYDROGEN-BONDING TO OXO-BRIDGED DIIRON(III) COMPLEXES

The magnetic exchange interactions present in a series of binuclear (mu-oxo)bis(mu-carboxylato)diiron(III) complexes are characterized. The carboxylate bridge and the solvate molecule in the crystal are varied. It is shown that the presence of a crystallographically-established hydrogen-bonding inte...

Zusammenfassung:The magnetic exchange interactions present in a series of binuclear (mu-oxo)bis(mu-carboxylato)diiron(III) complexes are characterized. The carboxylate bridge and the solvate molecule in the crystal are varied. It is shown that the presence of a crystallographically-established hydrogen-bonding interaction between lattice H2O molecules and the oxo bridge results in a dramatic attenuation of the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction from J = -134 cm-1 to J = -26 cm-1.
