Zusammenfassung:	Bifidobacterium breve, a gram-positive anaerobic bacterium that is one of the predominant organisms in the breast-fed infant gut, was inhibited by iron-free human lactoferrin and stimulated by iron-saturated lactoferrin. It was able to extract iron from iron-saturated lactoferrin in short-term nongrowth- and long-term growth conditions. It was concluded that lactoferrin is able to transfer iron directly to the bacterium.
