Zusammenfassung:"Allusion" is a concept that is not easily defined. Nevertheless, anyone searching for allusions in a text works with an implicit idea of what an allusion is, so one should try to make this idea as explicit as possible. The paper therefore starts with some theoretical considerations on what an allusion is and how it works. These are then applied to the allusions to the Minor Prophets in the Gospel of John as they are listed in NA²⁷ and UBS⁴. Some of these supposed allusions will appear to constitute real allusions, others should be considered as reflections of general biblical themes, and a few are references to early Christian traditions based on the OT.
