Zusammenfassung: | Hydraulic jumps formed in abruptly expanding channels are studied experimentally. The study includes both horizontal and sloping channels. S-jumps formed at different expansion ratios were studied under different flow conditions. Jump characteristics include the sequent depth ratio, the jump length ratio and the efficiency. Predictions to compute the jump characteristics are presented. The sequent depth ratio prediction model has a simple format similar to the well-known Belanger equation for the classical jump with a modified Froude number. The latter includes the abrupt expansion and the bed slope effects. Experimental data from other sources are used to calibrate and to verify the developed model. Predictions of jump characteristics from the present models agree with the present and the published data. |
