Zusammenfassung:Large single crystals (Φ 5 × L 33 mm) of hematite (α-Fe2O3) have been grown using a CaFe4O7-based solvent and 8 bar of oxygen in a four-mirror optical floating zone furnace in the traveling solvent zone configuration. The crystals grow along the [001] direction, are of excellent quality, and contain no residual Ca contamination from the solvent.
