Zusammenfassung:Dr Thomas Morland Hocken, the historian and collector of Maori material gave, and 20 years later, bequeathed a large collection of Maori artefacts to the Otago Museum in 1890. This collection included 61 Ngati Porou house carvings that were subsequently attributed to a meeting house (wharenui) called 'Tumoana-Kotore'. Some facts about the makings of these carvings, their history, findings, and some implications and consequences are discussed.
