Methods: The study population included 1765 consecutive adult patients undergoing cardiac operations on cardiopulmonary bypass from 2011 to 2013 in a single centre (age: 67.6 ± 10.3 years; octogenarians: 178; female: 33.1%; redo: 6.2%; urgent/emergent: 12.9%; isolated CABG: 40.1%; isolated valve procedures: 30.4%; combined: 26.7%).
