CO Oxidation Catalyzed by Supported Gold: Cooperation between Gold and Nanocrystalline Rare-Earth Supports Forms Reactive Surface Superoxide and Peroxide Species
Beneficial defects: Reactive η1‐superoxide and peroxide species at one‐electron defect sites are formed at the metal–support interface in gold nanoclusters on nanocrystalline CeO2−x. These intermediates oxidize CO adsorbed on gold to form CO2. The reactive oxygen species are formed on nanocrystallin...

Zusammenfassung: | Beneficial defects: Reactive η1‐superoxide and peroxide species at one‐electron defect sites are formed at the metal–support interface in gold nanoclusters on nanocrystalline CeO2−x. These intermediates oxidize CO adsorbed on gold to form CO2. The reactive oxygen species are formed on nanocrystalline CeO2−x (see picture) but not on conventional CeO2, and their formation is enhanced by the gold. |
