Zusammenfassung:The in vitro and in vivo responses of rat tissues to cadmium-induced lipid peroxidation (LPO) were documented and compared. The analysis shows that, although the liver has the greatest potential to undergo LPO in vitro, it also has a great capacity to counteract this phenomenon in vivo. The data also suggest that lung and brain could be considered the major target organs to LPO 24 h after exposure to low and moderate doses of Cd as cadmium chloride. These findings are important, when considering that occupational exposure occurs mainly by the inhalation route and that low amounts of Cd can elicit significant oxidative phenomena.
