Effect of solvents on the photodegradation rates of octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin
The effects on octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) photolysis rate and products by different solvents were studied. OCDD may be able to photolytically degrade into more toxic CDDs. Zusammenfassung: | The effects on octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) photolysis rate and products by different solvents were studied. OCDD may be able to photolytically degrade into more toxic CDDs. The rate of OCDD photolysis was found to be greatly affected by the solvent medium in the 295-340 nm region. Solvent mixtures used included: cyclohexadiene/hexane, triethylamine/hexane, cyclohexene/hexane, hexane, benzene/hexane, benzophenone/hexane, benzene, and acetonitrile/water. Solvents that are good hydrogen donors correlated with shorter photolysis times. Heptachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin was the preferred isomer of all solvent mixtures except those with 1,3-cyclohexadine. |
