Zusammenfassung:Decisions on the appropriate disposition of wastes containing both organic and inorganic compounds rely on first determining whether any waste constituents compromise the strength or stability of the waste form or are highly leachable. Often the means exist to overcome interferences and decrease the leachability of the waste constituents. This paper reviews the literature on interferences between hazardous wastes and cement and the fundamental chemical mechanisms by which the inhibition of cement set takes place. From this fundamental information, it is possible to reach some conclusions about the potential effects of most waste constituents even in the absence of particular studies on specific compounds. Organic and inorganic wastes and low-level radioactive wastes are considered.
