Microwave and X-ray observations of a major confined solar flare

Zusammenfassung: | Observations of an X4 flare of May 19, 1984 using the VLA and the SMM X-ray Polychromator are discussed. The 6 cm radio source remained stationary throughout the decay phase. Combined with other evidence, this indicates that the flare was magnetically confined and did not disrupt the complex structure of its region. The observed structures may be associated with a neutral sheet connecting the two bipoles. |
