Zusammenfassung:Raman spectroscopy has been used as a direct structural probe to study sorbate-framework interactions for water sorption into the zeolite potassium-ZK5. Equilibrium adsorbate-induced deformations of intertetrahedral angles are quantitatively measured and analyzed in terms of a structural isotherm for each counterion site. All of the structural changes result from the first molecules sorbed. Kinetic studies of the structural deformation are used to determine a diffusion coefficient for the water molecules deforming the six-membered ring site of {approximately} 10{sup {minus}12} cm{sup 2} s{sup {minus}1}.
