Zusammenfassung:Forest management in the US Pacific Northwest has been challenged by environmentalists who claim that traditional intensive harvesting practices have endangered species and ultimately damaged the long-term productive capacity of these forests. Although the sustainability of current practices are widely questioned, other problems such as air pollution also affect forest production. USFS is addressing these public concerns through research efforts aimed at developing sustainable and economically feasible methods of forest harvesting for multiple purposes.
