Deep inelastic scattering: Comparisons with the quark model sup

The 1990 Nobel Prize for Physics lecture is reprinted. The author describes the deep inelastic electron-proton scattering experiments conducted at SLAC in 1967. The implications of the observed dependence of cross sections on four-momentum transfer are discussed. (AIP)
