Zusammenfassung: | The prospects for fusion R&D have improved significantly relative to one year ago. Much technical progress has been achieved, particularly in the field of plasma performance. The future promise of safe and inexhaustible energy continues to be the primary motivation for the federal fusion program and justifies its continuation at present or increased levels of support. Current research activities and needs in inertial confinement and magnetic fusion are identified, and the role of universities and private industry in promoting fusion R&D is examined. |
