Zusammenfassung: | Octanol-water partition coefficients (Kow) were accurately determined by the generator column technique for 13 PCB congeners. These values were used to confirm a significant linear relationship between log Kow and the logarithm of the relative retention time on a nonselective gas chromatographic stationary phase. The total surface areas for all the congeners were determined; the total surface area was highly significantly correlated with log Kow. Further development of this relationships yields expressions for aqueous solubility which can be used to compute the solubility for those PCBs where appropriate data are available. |
