Effects of chemical inhomogeneities on grain growth and microstructure in Al sub 2 O sub 3
As local Si and Ca concentrations increase, the grain boundary-grain boundary dihedral angle distribution widens, grain-size distribution widens, and pore-boundary separation is enhanced. Discontinuous grain growth occurs in regions of undoped Al sub 2 O sub 3 containing the largest Ca and Si concen...

Zusammenfassung: | As local Si and Ca concentrations increase, the grain boundary-grain boundary dihedral angle distribution widens, grain-size distribution widens, and pore-boundary separation is enhanced. Discontinuous grain growth occurs in regions of undoped Al sub 2 O sub 3 containing the largest Ca and Si concentrations. Doping with MgO solute reduces impurity effects on grain growth by increasing bulk solubility, decreasing interfacial segregation of impurities, and narrowing the distribution of grain boundary-grain boundary dihedral angles. 38 refs. |
