The magnetic susceptibility of α and β brass

The magnetic susceptibility has been measured at 77° and 300°k of a series of copper-zinc alloys, ranging in composition from 0-47·6 atm% zinc, and of one silver-cadmium alloy containing 30·5 atm% cadmium. For the copper-zinc system the absolute susceptibility ranges from -0·085×10 −4 e.m.u./g for p...

Zusammenfassung:The magnetic susceptibility has been measured at 77° and 300°k of a series of copper-zinc alloys, ranging in composition from 0-47·6 atm% zinc, and of one silver-cadmium alloy containing 30·5 atm% cadmium. For the copper-zinc system the absolute susceptibility ranges from -0·085×10 −4 e.m.u./g for pure copper to -0·191×10 −6 e.m.u./g for 47·6% zinc. No significant difference was found between the values for a given alloy at the two temperatures of measurement. The significance of the results is discussed in relation to a theory recently proposed by Henry and Rogers.
