Organoboron Compounds. XII. Identification of the Presumed Alkoxydifluoroboranes as Coördination Compounds of Trialkyl Borates and Boron Fluoride 1,2

The substances reported as alkoxydifluoroboranes (formed by the reaction of boron fluoride with trialkyl borates) have properties which are more characteristic of coordination compounds than of substituted boranes. A consideration of vapor densities, cryoscopic molecular weights, distillation behavior, electric moments and reaction with nitrogen bases leads to the identification of the presumed alkoxydifluoroboranes as coordination compounds of trialkyl borates and two moles of boron fluoride. Comparison of these substances with the well established ether -boron fluoride coordination compounds supports their identification as coordination compounds.
