Zusammenfassung:Optical quality crystals, measuring up to 2.5×20 cm, of the compound La2Be2O5 : Nd3+ have been grown from the melt. The results of physical- and optical-property measurements and laser testing (long pulse, Q switched, and cw mode) are reported. Linearly polarized laser oscillations at 1.07 and 1.08 μm are observed. Long-pulse slope efficiencies about 60% greater than for YAG : Nd at comparable pumping thresholds and Q-switched energy storage nearly three times that of YAG : Nd are also observed.
