Zusammenfassung:Under the effect of magnetic field the magnetic nanoparticles of the ferrofluid tend to align in the direction of the magnetic field. This alignment of the magnetic nanoparticles behaves as a spatial grating and diffract light, when light is propagating perpendicular to the direction of the applied magnetic field. The chains of the magnetic nanoparticles represents a linear series of fringes like those observed in a grating/wire. Under applied magnetic field the circular beam of light transforms into a prominent diffraction line in the direction perpendicular to the applied magnetic field. This diffracted light illuminates larger area on the screen. This behavior can be used as magneto controlled illumination of the object and image analysis.
