Zusammenfassung: | Model Pt catalyst structures have been fabricated directly on planar glassy carbon electrodes by physical vapor deposition. Application of these model electrodes toward the understanding of fuel cell catalyst degradation is demonstrated. These model electrodes are further improved with the development of a templated synthesis process to create Pt nanoparticle arrays of controlled size and spacing. The catalysts are characterized by scanning electron microscopy and rotating disk electrode experiments. Surface area loss from potential cycling is demonstrated with mechanisms of sintering, dissolution and particle detachment. |
