Zusammenfassung: | The distribution of inorganic pigments in the pigmentized sizing layer was investigated to understand the basic behavior of pigment particles in the surface-sizing layer. The dis- tribution and arrangement of two ground calcium carbonates and two kaolin clays in the surface-sized starch layer were investigated using scanning electron microscopy and im- age analysis. When coarse ground calcium carbonate or clay with a low aspect ratio was used, the tendency of the pigment to be exposed to the outside of the starch film in- creased. The plate-shaped clay had a significantly higher surface retention than ground calcium carbonates, which greatly improved the coverage of the base paper by pigment. KCI Citation Count: 0 |
